How We Work

Morning Star Engineering is a solo practice with a trusted specialist network. Every engagement is led by the principal engineer - you get direct access, not an account manager filtering the conversation.

Engagement Phases

01

Discovery

We start by understanding your data landscape: what OT systems you have, where the data lives, how it moves today, and what questions you actually need to answer. No pre-built proposals - we scope based on what we find.

02

Architecture

We design the right solution for your environment, not the trendiest one. That means choosing the simplest approach that meets your requirements, documenting the tradeoffs, and getting alignment before a line of code is written.

03

Build

We implement with your team involved, not in isolation. That means regular check-ins, code that your engineers can read, and decisions made visibly so nothing is a black box at handoff.

04

Enablement & Handoff

Documentation, training, and knowledge transfer are first-class deliverables - not afterthoughts. We don't leave until your team can operate, extend, and explain what we built.

What to Expect

  • Pragmatic choices - the simplest solution that actually solves the problem.
  • Honest scoping - we'll tell you when something is out of scope or a bad idea.
  • No indefinite dependency - the goal is always to leave your team capable, not reliant on us.
  • Transparent decisions - architecture choices are explained, not handed down.
  • Typical engagement length: project-based, weeks to a few months.

What We Need from You

  • An internal champion - someone with authority to answer questions and make decisions.
  • System access - read access to OT systems, historians, or whatever we're integrating.
  • Willingness to be involved - we build with your team, not for them.
  • Honest context - known issues, political constraints, and past attempts matter.
